You may have heard of REAL ID. It’s a U.S. law established in 2005, requiring all states to comply with new identification standards for air travel and entrance to some federal facilities, like military bases.
Here is what Washington residents should remember: ID2020. Yes, REAL ID starts on October 1, 2020, and www.ID2020WA.com provides all the details you will need to prepare. In addition to the list of compliant forms of identification listed on the ID2020WA website, a U.S. Passport Card is also compliant.
Briefly stated, beginning October 1, 2020, if you plan to use your state-issued ID or license to fly within the U.S., make sure it is REAL ID compliant. REAL ID only affects people who are aged 18 and older as of October 1, 2020.
