Those who have returned their ballots to a drop box in the past need to be aware of the changes that were made as a result of recent King County budget reductions.
Elections Director Sherril Huff noted that, "King County had to make some hard choices to balance the 2010 operating budget. This included cuts to all departments in services that citizens want and depend on. As a cost savings measure, Elections was asked to reduce the number of ballot drop boxes as well as the operational hours of accessible voting centers."
There will continue to be two 24-hour ballot drop boxes available to voters who want to return their ballot without postage – one at Elections Headquarters in Tukwila and another at the King County Administration Building in downtown Seattle. Voters may also return their ballots in person to one of the accessible voting centers. Exact locations and operating hours are listed in the voters’
pamphlet.
After public hearings on Thursday, January 14, 2010, the City Council voted unanimously urging “voters to support the two levies and bond measure to ensure that Shoreline Public Schools can continue to offer high quality education to students…”
The Council also voted 7-0 to support the King County Library System levy.

The City operates a sewer utility serving 80% of the residents of Lake Forest Park. Over the past several years, the City has examined the entire system, mapping and evaluating the infrastructure and making changes and upgrades. The biggest change has been to provide sewers to previously unsewered areas. As part of this process the city completed a study of sewer rates for operations and maintenance and for the long term capital infrastructure.
Your sewer bill is made up of two parts. King County assesses a fee for the cost of the disposal of the sewage – the operation of sewage treatment plants and the development of new facilities. The county portion is the largest portion of the bill. In 2010, the county portion will be $31.90; the City portion will increase $0.84 to $14.76 per month for single family residences this year. The county is not planning on increasing sewer rates this year.
The City has a low income senior sanitary sewer discount program. To be eligible you must be 62 years of age or older, own and live in the property, and meet the gross household income criteria (one person $29,500, two people $33,700.)

Seattle City Light has a goal to respond to a reported streetlight outage within 10 business days. That means the light will be fixed or, if the repair is more complicated, City Light will contact you with an explanation of the work that needs to be done and how long it could take.
With about 84,000 streetlights to maintain, City Light appreciates your help in finding lights that are out or are malfunctioning. You can report them electronically, using the Streetlight Trouble Report Form,
http://www.seattle.gov/light/streetlight/form.asp, or via phone at (206) 684-7056 or via email at street.light@seattle.gov.
Here is the information you'll need to report a light that is out:
- The light pole number and the street name the light is directed over. Seattle City Light is currently in the process of renumbering our poles so you may see two pole numbers. Please use the number resembling the image here.
- The address nearest the pole is also needed to assist in locating the correct pole.
- What is the nature of the problem? (Examples: Pole down, light burned out, light on in daylight, light goes on then off, glare, etc.)
- City Light asks for your name and phone number in case they have questions and need to follow up with you.
- The online form is here:

Mayor Hutchinson will be talking with neighborhood groups between January and April about issues of concern to citizens. The Mayor would like to talk to block watches, community groups, and neighborhood associations about what is happening in the city.
These community conversations are an opportunity to talk together with your neighbors about what you want to see for the future of your city.
In addition to neighborhood groups, the City will be hosting a Community Conversation at Third Place Commons in April.
