2008 Good Neighbor Awards
Award honors Good Neighbors in our community
Every year, the Lake Forest Park Human Services Commission honors individuals whose contributions make a difference in the community. This year, ten people were honored for making Lake Forest Park a better place:
- Bea Conger
- For her kindness and generosity to her neighbors and children since 1943.
- Carol Dahl
- For her many volunteer and leadership roles over the years and her generosity in taking her neighbor‘s young child to school every day.
- Libby Fiene
- For her leadership role in certifying Lake Forest Park as a Community Wildlife City by the National Wildlife Federation, and her leadership role in removing ivy from the city‘s urban forests.
- Kym Good
- For generously supporting the community and developing programs for special needs children and adults. Kym‘s Kiddy Corner in Northgate serves as a drop off site for Tree-house, a non profit organization supporting foster children.
- Sally Hamel
- For serving as her neighborhood‘s unofficial “neighborhood builder” with activities such as hosting an annual neighborhood Christmas party.
- Mark Johnson
- For his leadership in organizing a team of volunteers from the Lake Forest Park Presbyterian Church to clean and repair six homes in the Sheridan Beach area after the December flood.
- Liane Newman
- For her environmental advocacy on Brookside Creek and the City‘s Heritage Tree Program.
- Mark Phillips
- For his work in protecting the trees and streams in Lake Forest Park through his leadership of the Lake Forest Park Streamkeepers, the Urban Forest Taskforce, and removing ivy from urban forests.
- Bob Wells
- For organizing his neighborhood block watch and doing much more by hosting an annual neighborhood picnic, welcoming new neighbors, and gathering support for those that are ill. (He was unable to attend.)
- Dela Van Hoy
- Dela was honored for her volunteer efforts at the Lake City North Helpline Food Bank. (She was unable to attend.)
