Council changes meeting format to encourage citizen participation

The City Council has reorganized its meeting format to encourage citizen participation in City Council meetings. The Council meetings will provide citizen comment period after the flag salute, the Mayor’s report, and the adoption of the agenda. This comment period is intended for items not on the agenda.

For items on the agenda, and in a section entitled Council Business Open Comment the item will be introduced and discussed by council, this is followed by a public comment on the item. Participation is encouraged. Public Comment is three (3) minutes for each person. In addition, citizens will be encouraged to comment on items on the agenda during a section entitled Citizen Comments.

The study session has been extended and will last from 6 pm to 7:30 pm This should allow for additional discussion of items prior to being presented at the Council meetings.
