Be prepared for storm outages
Winter is storm season. Since the major storm in December 2006, Seattle City Light has trimmed trees in Lake Forest Park along power lines. Power outages usually happen because of weather and trees.
Be prepared for outages:
- Keep a power outage kit with flashlight, portable radio, batteries.
- If the electricity goes out check your circuit breaker for a blown fuse or open breaker. Call the power outage hotline 206-684-7400 for a recording of known outages, report your outage if it is not on the recording.
- Food should be safe for six hours in refrigerators and two days in the freezer if the doors remain closed.
- Stay at least 10 feet from downed lines.
- For information on carbon monoxide poisoning in various languages, go to
www.metrokc.gov/health/disaster/carbon-monoxide
- If you or a family member depends on electric life-saving equipment, register with City Light at 206-684-3020. Be sure to have emergency power backup and know how to use it.
- The city police department is developing a list of individuals who may need a visit during an extended power outage. If you want to be on the visit list, email or send a letter to the police. The email address is cniclai@ci.lake-forest-park.wa.us, the mail address is Police Department, attention Cheryl Niclai, 17425 Ballinger Way NE, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155. The police department will send an officer or a member of crime watch to check on individuals who may need assistance when the power goes out for an extended period. As always, if you have a life threatening situation call 911.
