Lake Forest Park has been named a Tree City USA community for the fourth year by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The Tree City USA designation honors the City’s commitment to community forestry.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and USDA Forest Service.
On April 12, at 6:30pm at City Hall, Lake Forest Park will celebrate Arbor Day. The public is invited to a reception and award ceremony.
“When people think of Lake Forest Park, they think of our trees. We have managed to preserve a significant amount of our tree cover. And although we have done a great deal, there is still more to do. I am eager to see the new legislation being proposed by the Urban Tree task Force. In addition, the City has established April as Earth Smart Month.in Lake Forest Park. A major goal of the City is to educate the community on how to reduce carbon emissions which creates global warming. One way to reduce carbon is to plant a tree. I encourage you to plant a tree to celebrate Arbor Day,” said Mayor Hutchinson.
You can get a Douglas Fur seedling from Brookside Elementary School fourth grade foresters. They are celebrating Arbor and Earth days by giving away Douglas Fir seedlings at the Dig It! Earth Smart Fair on Saturday, April 21.
"Trees are a vital component of the infrastructure in our cities and towns, and provide environmental and economic benefits,” Arbor Day Foundation President John Rosenow said. A community, and its citizens, that recognize these benefits and provide needed care for its trees deserves recognition and thanks.”
