Allied Waste incorrectly charged Lake Forest Park customers a city tax on their invoices between January and March based on the previous contract. The new contract between Allied Waste and the City that went into effect in January 2007 eliminates the City tax. Allied Waste is working to make sure the next billing cycle is correct and customers receive a credit on the bill for the city tax charged and collected between January and March.
Allied Waste sends bills out to one-third of their customers each month over a three-month period. One-third of the customers receive a 3-month bill at the end of June, one-third at the end of July and one-third at the end of August. Customers will receive notice on the bill in the section called “important information” that the tax should not have been charged and a credit will be applied. Customers should see the city tax line eliminated and the credit applied in the billing cycle that begins at the end of June.
Invoices dated May 31, 2007 removed the tax, but did not include an explanation for the change in the charges. The complete correction for these customers should be on the August bill. Customers who have questions should call Allied Waste at 206- 682-9730.
Allied Waste will also be developing an insert to help customers understand the bill and its components. The information will also be posted on the Allied Waste web site www.rabanco.com.
