Get Ready for the Storm Season
Please check your drains
If there is a windstorm, leaves may block the city’s drains. If you have a storm drain near you, please rake away the leaves to keep the drains flowing. City crews and volunteers will be out checking and clearing the drains. However, the public works crews may be called out to clear streets and assist with life threatening emergencies.
Get ready for the storm season
- Have a list of numbers to call.
- If your lights go out call Seattle City Light Power Outage Hotline (206) 684-7400. Seattle City Light does not know your lights are off unless someone calls.
- For Natural Gas emergencies, 24 hours a day: 1-888-225-5773
- Be sure you have flashlights and a portable radio and batteries
- Refresh your supply of bottled water. The recommendation is one gallon of water per person per day.
- Update you supply of prepared foods. Check that the can opener is available.
- Be sure you have your medicines.
- Fill up your car with fuel. If electricity goes out the pumps may not work.
- Refresh your first aid kit.
- If you have gas in your home, every household member needs to know how to turn off the gas.
- Everyone in your household should also be prepared to turn off the water in an emergency.
