Next Steps: Sustaining a Livable Lake Forest Park

Sustaining a Livable Lake Forest Park
The Future of Our Town Center - Phase II
Community Forum
Wednesday, July 20 - 7 p.m.
Third Place Commons
Towne Centre

Last fall, the Sustaining a Livable Lake Forest Park Task Force delivered a set of recommendations to the City Council regarding actions that would encourage and support redevelopment of the shopping center.

The recommendations reflect the vision that was developed by the Task Force based upon research and at three well-attended community forums. One of the
recommendations was to move forward with the development of design guidelines for the town center area. The proposal for developing guidelines recognizes that the community vision can be best accomplished through a collaborative approach. In this phase the City will continue to develop the community’s vision into design guidelines and to involve the current owner, mall tenants, potential developers and the community in the process. This will help ensure that a future owner of the property will respond to the community’s vision for the town center.

The Council has engaged a team of consultants to help with this next phase. One is to assist with the design components and the other to work with the City to further define the goals, objectives and interests of all parties. There will be two community forums during this next phase.

The first community forum is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20. It is anticipated that there will be a draft plan that will provide a framework to align the interests of the community with potential developers and the seller of the property.

This will include details on the proposed recommendations of t he Task Force related to parking, height, mass and scale, density, setbacks, access, environmental expectations, and public/ private gathering space.

By working with potential developers, the owner and the community, the City hopes to engage a developer who will carry out the recommendations of the Livable Lake
Forest Park Task Force much sooner than was originally anticipated.

As information is developed during this next phase, the City will provide it here on the City’s website www.cityoflfp.com/mayor/sustain-lfp/default.html, at City Hall and in future issues of the TownCrier.
