April, 2007: April is Earth Smart Month in Lake Forest Park
From the Computer of Mayor Dave
Lake Forest Park continues to be concerned about the environment. We have ordinances that protect our steep slopes, streamside and lakefront. We have groups in the City working on protecting the environment like StreamKeepers and the Stewardship Foundation and the Environmental Quality Commission. The City is maintaining our streets and drainage facilities with fish-friendly ways and we are developing policies and procedures intended to allow thoughtful and environmentally sensitive development.
Building on our past, we are continuing to create an environmental future. The Urban Forest Task Force is revising our tree ordinance to enhance our tree cover; the Legacy Project is looking at our parks and open space needs for the next 100 years.
This month is Earth Smart April. It is an opportunity for you to clean up your yard of large woody debris and your closets of old electronic equipment. View An Inconvenient Truth at Third Place Commons on April 19. The annual Dig it Earth Smart Fair on April 21st will focus on how you can reduce your carbon footprint.
I hope you will participate in these events.
