February, 2007: Keeping the Lights On
From the Computer of Mayor Dave

Keeping the power on is a critical issue for Lake Forest Park. Our Horizon View neighbors had the power out for many days during the last windstorm. We are working harder to serve residents better when the power is out. Our public works staff and the police department are in constant communication with Seattle City Light to get resources to our City.

During the recent storm the police department and Crime Watch volunteers delivered notices to areas with the lights out and set up an emergency information booth in Horizon View Park. The City opened a public information center in the lobby to keep walk-in residents up to date on the outages.

As for the future, I am working with Seattle City Light on a community forum scheduled for March 29 to discuss undergrounding, capital facilities projects, customer service, tree trimming, and more.

This winter has been a wake up call. The City is preparing for the next emergency. We are upgrading our emergency operations center; at the same time, I want to encourage residents to be prepared on their own for extended periods of time. If you have suggestions about what we can do better during a storm event, please e-mail me at City Hall.
