October, 2006: Grace Cole Nature Park Update

Grace Cole Nature Park opened October 28th with a work party and lunch for volunteers. The Grace Cole Nature Park is named after along-time resident, school board member and member of the State House of Representatives. The Park includes land donated to the City by the Cole family, augmented by land on 30th Avenue NE acquired with state funds and a grant from the King County Conservation Futures, a fund dedicated to the purchase of open space for preservation. The City then purchased an additional property in 2003 to links the existing sites, again with Conservation Futures Funds.

We are grateful to the citizen task force that met for more than a year to develop a master plan for the park that was approved by the City Council, and grateful to citizens who have and will continue to devote volunteer hours to accomplish all that is outlined in the master plan.

For more about plans for the park, please see the October issue of the Town Crier. The park is located at the intersection of NE 30th Street and NE 166th Street in the Hillside neighborhood.

These bulletins appear every month in the Town Crier, a newsletter mailed monthly to all Lake Forest Park households. To see earlier Communications from Mayor Dave, look at back issues in the Town Crier Archive
