June, 2006: How Our City Influences National Policy
From the Computer of Mayor Dave

How does the City influence national policy? Proposed Federal legislation has an impact on City revenues and delivery of local services.

The rewrite of the telecommuncations act called Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act of 2006 is one of these issues. This bill proposes major changes in broadband service provision, a nationa cable franchise and could result in the loss of he control of the municipal rights of way and a loss of utility revenues.

I serve on the board of the Washington Association of Cities; part of our job is to monitor Federal legislation. City officials are actively involved in lobbying to protect local interests. We also meet with our Federal elected officials to share our local perspective on national issues.

Use this form to email me, or call City Hall if you have a Federal issue you think we should be monitoring.

A Reminder:

For movie and music lovers, we are having two Movies in the Park (July 14 and August 11) and two Concerts in the Park (July 5 and July 12) at Animal Acres Park for your entertainment pleasure. Stay tuned!
