Dear Neighbors,
Hurricane Katrina's impact is enormous. We know the hurricane and its aftermath devastated portions of the Gulf Coast and placed a huge strain on the emergency and social services. People are homeless and in great need of all sorts of resources.
The most urgent need now is for money. Please donate to a charity of your choice. If you want to donate online you can click on the FEMA website www.fema.gov or go to Network for Good, an e-philanthropy site where people can donate and get information about national relief efforts. You can also click to download a flyer prepared by Operation Evergreen, a program set up by Washington State give information on how we can help, and contact information for evacuees who need assistance. Their phone number is 1-800-941-2930.
Lake Forest Park is working with King County to coordinate relief efforts. Shoreline Community College, Shoreline School district, local churches and community groups are making plans to respond to the needs of refugees. We will keep you up to date on these efforts as they unfold.
Thank you for your generosity.
Mayor Dave
Our City Council Will Have New Faces
Lake Forest Park will have new faces on the City Council next year. We have nine candidates seeking election to four City Council positions.
Use your vote to elect Councilmembers you feel will represent what is best for our community. The City Council makes decisionsabout land use, public safety and the allocation of your tax dollars for roads, parks and other community services.
There will be two community candidate forums at Third Place Commons one before the primary and one before the general election. The first will be Wednesday, September 7 at 7 pm. The date for the second forum has not yet been set.
Attending these forums and reading the voters pamphlet are good ways of learning about candidates. One of the best things about a small town is that you can speak directly to candidates.
Get involved in campaigns; learn about positions and vote the September 20 primary and the general election in November.
