January-February, 2005: More About City Commissions
From the Computer of Mayor Dave
VolunteerVolunteer citizen commissions play an important role in the governance of our City. Some of the services provided by the City have come out of the concerns raised by volunteers just like you. One member of the Public Safety Commission wanted to be sure there was a Teen Court in the City. The Public Safety Commission did the preliminary outreach to the Municipal Court and schools. We now have an active and successful Teen Court.

The Human Services Commission is working with our schools on a youth suicide prevention campaign. We have volunteers who update the website daily. Members of the Environmental Quality and Planning Commissions reviewed and prepared amendments to the Sensitive Area Ordinance. The City has seven commissions made up of citizen volunteers: Economic Development, Environmental Quality, Human Services, Parks and Recreation, Planning, Public Safety, and Transportation. Every year in March, one third of the members are new orreappointed. I want to invite you to join a commission.

To learn more, come to the Volunteer Fair on Saturday, February 12 from 10 AM - Noon at Third Place Commons. Commission members will be there to talk to you about our commissions.

Click here for an application form. There will also be forms at the Volunteer
Fair. Come to the Volunteer Fair!
