February, 2004: Welcome to Our New Librarian
From the Computer of Mayor Dave

Lake Forest Park has a new librarian. I hope you will join me in welcoming Colleen Brazil. Recently, Colleen came to a City Council meeting to get acquainted with the Mayor and Councilmembers. Colleen told us that, per capita, Lake Forest Park is one of the highest user groups in the entire King County Library System. The library is going to undergo renovations soon in order to redesign the space for better use.

Our library has always been a priority with our citizens. There are two groups who work tirelessly for the library. The Friends of the Library is a group of volunteers who support the programs of the library. Perhaps you have seen the books for sale outside the library. These donated books are sold to support library programs. The Friends of the Library support Pizza and Books, a monthly program for teens. Teens bring their appetite and love of reading to the library where they eat pizza and talk about hot titles for teens. The Friends of the Library purchase the extras that make our library a special place. If you are interested in joining Friends of the Library, just drop by the library for details.

The other group working for the benefit of our library is the Lake Forest Park Library Committee. The Committee was an advocate for the City to join the King County Library District. Recently they worked with the Shoreline Schools Foundation to purchase updated science books for school libraries. Our library is just one area where volunteers have made and continue to make a great difference.

Don't miss the book sale on February 7. It's always a great event with a great selection of books.
