August, 2003: Gateway Senior Housing Overlay
From the Computer of Mayor Dave

On July 11, 2003 the Council unanimously passed an ordinance providing for the Gateway Senior Housing Overlay. This is a first step in responding to the Comprehensive Plan initiative to provide senior housing in our community. Our community is getting older and we need to provide for our increasing elderly population. There are a lot of people to thank for the efforts they made to make this overlay possible.

First, I want to thank the Gateway area neighbors and the Elks Club. In the past six months, the sometimes competing interests were hammered out. Valuable input was given to the City Council and they used this input to make adjustments in the proposal.

Individual Council members worked hard with both sides to craft an ordinance that reflected the best possible solution, one that meets a variety of interests.

I can say without a doubt, it wasn’t easy, but we should all be proud that we were able to complete the process as a community.

There will undoubtedly be more issues of change that our community will undergo as we update and adjust to changing times. I feel confident that our City, through its representatives and community input, can face the issues that will continue to face us as we look to the future of our City.
