Farmers Market Opens May 11, 2008, 11 am to 4 pm
Finally, after a long cold spring, the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market is opening on May 11, 2008.
Celebrate Mother's Day with fresh cut flowers. Farm fresh asparagus, garlic, honey, onions, plants, flowers, variety of cheeses and more will be available on opening day.
All of the farmers are planning on returning this year when their crops are ripe. New this year--shell fish and a new cheese vendor.

Seattle Shakespeare Company performs Romeo and Juliet at Shorecrest High School, May 15, 2008
The Seattle Shakespeare Company will perform "Romeo & Juliet" on May 15th, 2008
at the Shorecrest High School Theater.
Shorecrest PTSA presents a limited edition evening performance by one of the
area's leading theater groups in order to make an evening of theater possible
for everyone in our community, especially families and young people.
Ticket prices include a festive dessert before the performance.

Senior Shuttle Volunteer Drivers Urgently Needed!
The Senior Shuttle urgently needs caring and dedicated volunteer drivers to transport local seniors from their homes to destinations in the Shoreline and Lake Forest Park communities. Many seniors rely on this free service to help them stay active, healthy and independent.

Environmental Mini-grants Program for Storm Related Repairs
The City of Lake Forest Park is offering an incentive mini-grant program for businesses, individuals and non-profits up to $1000 to restore flood related damage near streams.
These grants are available to individuals and business that experienced storm related damage along creeks and streams in Lake Forest Park. If you are planning to restore the streamside you may be eligible for up to $1000 in an incentive grant from the City. The matching grants are available to foster the improvement of the natural environment within the City and to reduce the long-term impact of flooding.

Emergency Resource Guide
This December flooding is a reminder that we all need to be prepared for emergencies. The Police Department and the Public Safety Commission have developed a packet of materials that will be distributed to homes in January. The packet includes an emergency resource guide, a magnet with emergency numbers to call and a brochure. Watch for these to be distributed by Crime Watch volunteers in March.

Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station Opens
The Shoreline Recycling and Transfer Station (formerly First Northeast Transfer Station) is the first urban transfer station to be built in King County since 1976. The new station features more recycling opportunities, numerous green building innovations, and increased protection of Thornton Creek, which runs through the property.
The station is located at 2300 N. 165th St. in Shoreline.

Homeowners are responsible for the leaves that fall into their yard. Here are several options for disposing of your leaves:
- Add leaves to your compost pile or use in your garden
- Put your leaves in the yard waste recycling container
It is illegal to blow your leaves into the street or stream or roadside culverts.

Lake Forest Park has been named a Tree City USA community for the fourth year by the
National Arbor Day Foundation.
The Tree City USA designation honors the City’s commitment to community forestry.

Storm Season Isn‘t Over
Please check your drains
When the wind blows, leaves may block the city’s drains. If you have a storm drain near you,
please rake away the leaves to keep the drains flowing. City crews and volunteers will be out checking
and clearing the drains. However, the public works crews may be called out to clear streets and assist
with life threatening emergencies.

- If your lights go out, call Seattle City Light Power Outage Hotline (206) 684-7400.
Seattle City Light does not know your lights are off unless someone calls.

The City has enacted a revised parking ordinance due to growing neighborhood concern about
commercial vehicles, trailers and trucks being parked in the right-of-way.

Sound Transit has placed WIFI on many of its articulated Sound Transit. Express 522 buses. Users should look for the WIFI icon near vehicle doors to see if your bus is equipped with free wireless internet access.
