Description

Blue Heron Park is a small (.50 acre) hidden gem at a busy intersection. Lush native landscaping gives way to a primitive pathway where McAleer Creek winds through a thick grove of alders.Planting beds with an array of native drought–tolerant plants and a compost fence serve as a demonstration garden. Enjoy viewing the salmon in fall, winter or spring, watch for herons fishing for lunch.

History

The property was privately owned and commonly called "the stump farm" because former owners had cleared it and left the stumps standing. The park was purchased by the City of Lake Forest Park with Open Space bonds in 1989.

Volunteer Opportunities

Water quality measurements: Streamkeepers. Dates are announced on the City website and in the Town Crier.
