Jurors are pooled by the Court according to zip code. It is not necessary for you to reside in the jurisdiction for which you are being summoned. For jury service in the Lake Forest Park Municipal Court, you need only reside in the 98155 or 98028 zip code area.
Your appearance is required by law, RCW 2.36.080-,100. Most trials do not last more than two (2) days. However, some cases may last longer. Jurors are compensated by the Court $10.00 for each day they are required to appear. Exemptions will be granted for medical reasons, death in the immediate family, paid airline/hotel reservations or extreme financial hardship only. If you are requesting an exemption for either a work related or a physical problem, then a letter from your employer or physician is required. DO NOT ask to be excused by telephone.
RCW 2.36.070 states that a person is NOT qualified to serve as a juror if that person:
- is under the age of eighteen (18)
- is not a citizen of the United States
- is not a resident of the county or zip code area where summoned to serve (King, 98155)
- is not able to communicate in the English language
- is convicted of a felony and has not had his/her civil rights restored
